Hey everyone looking for some insight and info.....I got dwi back in 2011 and I would like to go with my buddies to Winnipeg fishing in March but the research I have done is telling me that u have to wait 5 years after. Anyone that had an experience with this or know somebody who has I would like to know. Wondering if there is a way of accessing sooner. Thanks!

I've heard so many different things on this it's crazy. I've heard its 10 years not 5 and you can petition the queen and possible get in sooner and pay 700.00. I have a buddy that had a DWI and he did get turned down but he told me they would let him in for $200.00. Sorry I can't add anything factual, but for what is worth I've never cough my buddy lying in the 30+ years I've known him.

I went to Canada last year and i can tell you do not want to lie or leave out any thing they ask you or they will just not allow you in the country. With that said i checked on line and you can go to www.bordercrossing.ca/DUI-Border-Cross and they have all the paper work to file for a temporary resident permit for a DUI less than 5 years or a rehabilitation permit for a DUI over 5 years.

i'll save you the trouble.... there is no hard fast rule. totally at the discretion of the immigration officer you get. The unwritten rule is no admittance if the felony is 10 years or newer. If 10 years old or more, they may or may not allow you in. They can refuse you, allow you in after paying a 200.00 fee, or allow you in with no fee. remember, a dui is a felony in my country, which is why they take it so seriously.

you best bet for a definitive answer is to apply for a NEXUS card. it will cost you 50.00 to apply. Its a trusted traveler program, where both countries review your record, and have to approve you. If you get approved, then you get a card, and you should have no issues crossing the border.

any questions, feel free to pm me.
