jvm1
Do you guys look during open water for new locations to spear in the winter? Is there anything specific that you look for when on the boat to mark as a possible hole cutting location? There is a lake I like that has big pike swimming in it, I saw them all winter long. If it weren't for spearing I wouldn't know because after going there 3 times this summer the biggest pike I've caught was under 20"
mrklean
I look for where the weed edges are and mark them on my GPS during open water, I do a lot of just trolling with spoons to find new areas where pike might be hiding also.
jvm1
I'm starting to hate on myself for selling my old lowrance 522 this spring. As a sonar it wasn't the best but it was a decent portable unit for winter and the gps worked great. I just don't see myself taking out the bigger humminbird in the winter now. This is totally off topic, anybody watch the show Ice Holes? They went spearing in MN, I think it was in Brainerd. Terrible show but the spearing part was neat to see.
