Your take on cultivating Porcinis?

Recommended Posts

Personally I think I would get one of those logs with Oysters, or even the plugs to use my own trees/logs. There is an outfit out of Ft. Ripley by me that goes to the farmers markets and sells them pretty cheap. Or the Micology store in St. Paul sells them as well I believe.

But that's only because this seems pretty intensive and pretty hit or miss.

I am skeptical of the idea of cultivating porcinis--or any mycorrhizal fungus, for that matter. It might be possible to do it, but one would think that, if it were possible on a consistent, large scale, someone would've figured it out by now, given the fact that fresh porcinis are so expensive if you can even find them.

If you do try it, I'd be really interested to hear how it works out, though.

Stick is right... any mycorrhizal mushroom is supposed to be insanely tough to cultivate.

We do oysters, and have a chicken log. Both work fine. I've also done spawn bags from The Mikeology Store and they were flushing non-stop. So many oysters we couldn't keep up...
