waxworm09
I have been looking for a 01-03 silverado or f150 for a while now. Today i happened to find a 04 avalanche at a local dealer for a good price. I wasnt considering the avalanche, but its loaded with leather and sunroof, and looks very nice. Anyone have any input as to which they prefer, pros and cons? Thanks!
arctic_scrap1
I have an '02 Avalanche and I like it. It's nice having the 4 doors and mine is loaded with leather, sunroof, heated seats, etc. They also tow and ride better than the silverados due to being on the suburban frame. You will run into issues if you use your box to haul stuff a lot. The avalanche box is small, most atvs cannot fit in it. That is not an issue for me as I have a 5x10 trailer and a bigger enclosed trailer.
Macgyver55
It really depends how you plan to use it! I've owned all 3 of your choices and I love my Avalanche, (I just bought another) after owning my previous one 5 years. I really like the versatility, the weatherproof and secure storage and the very nice ride quality. Some Atvs will fit, as I frequently put my wife's Rancher in the rear but my Foreman with oversize 27 inch tires does not. Most often we bring both so I use a trailer anyway. They are not rated for as heavy of loads as a pickup but my heavy hauling days are behind me. It's also nice to be able to fold down the seat and haul longer things and I have slept in it on occasion. Another thing I liked was the resale value, I owned my last one nearly 5 years and got only 5 grand less than I paid for it.
Billy G
Avalanches are very nice but beware of the 2004s. That year is a bad year for the insterment cluster being bad, most commonly the spedo. My girlfriends father has a 2004 avalanche that has 230,000 miles on it with original tranny and the only engine work was a water pump. Has the 5.3 in it. If you have a larger family and like the comfort side of things id go with the avalanche but if you want more of a truck, well than you cant beat the Silverado!
