Outboard motor shopping

I'm in the market for a new 20 hp outboard motor and was wondering if anyone has purchased an outboard from any of these internet outfits advertising free shipping, no tax etc. If so, what kind of experience did you have? I'm just starting the process so I will be checking with local vendors as well for price comparisons and the like. Prefer to shop local, but searching for info. Thanks for any responses.

I've never done it, but sometimes even new motors have mechanical issues out of the box. It is a lot easier to deal locally should you have a problem even if its on warranty.

I purchased two online, one about four years ago, and the second just a few weeks ago. No problems with either transaction. The 20 Suzuki I just got was 1300 less than a quote I got from a dealer.

Theres a company out there that runs a scam on those, they're like half the price of msrp but they require a wire transfer. DO NOT DO THAT

If you're paying by credit card and it's a company inside the US I'd say go for it.
