Any one find hens as far north as Bemidji??

Recommended Posts

I hunt east of Bemidji about a 1/2 hour, so the same latitude anyhow, and I have had some success. More chickens than hens for sure, though. Find areas with lots of oak trees. It seems that maybe late August to early October is the time to look. September being my best month.

I find a ton of hens north of Bemidji. Problem with the Bemidji area is our lack of white oak. We've got a lot of scrub oak, and some aged red oak, but you're typically going to need to find some GIANT red oak or moderate white oaks to find good numbers of hens. We have none of what I described in the Bemidji area... Lots of red oak sizable enough for chickens though, which is nice.
