AdvanTech opinions

I am ready to purchase the flooring for my wheel house build and am leaning towards Advantech. For those that have used it on your build projects, I thought I'd ask your opinion now that you have some time with it. Is it holding up as expected and would you still recommend it over other products? I had a building materials guy at Menards say that he wouldn't use it in a wheel house. Everything is built on top of the floor so I don't want to use the wrong product. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

LRG swears by it so I looked for it and couldn't find it in 100 mile radius of Brainerd. Be careful to see if it comes in different water ratings like similar products do. I went 3/4 treated w/ coated screws.

I have someone coming this way from Brookings in the next couple of weeks that could bring it from Lowes if that's what I decide to go with. Just looking for some feedback from those that have used it for several years now. A lot of the treated I've seen is already warped on the shelf and the knots aren't filled the best. Advantech looks much better to work with if it will last over the long haul.

When I first was thinking of using Advantech back in 2008, I did a bunch of research into the product. At the time a few of the high end enclosed trailer builders were using it, with long guarantees against floor rot. Keep in mind, these trailers come from the factory with no protection on the underside of the Advantech. In doing some trailer research this last year, I found several other trailer builders are now using it and offering similar warranties.

My suggestion would be to do a couple hours of Googling, and YouTubing into the product, the ratings, guarantees, etc, and make an educated decision based on that information, rather than any Lip_Ripper Guy suggestion of the product. smile

That said, I am 100% confident that it will stand up to the test of time based on what I know, and the 4 fish houses I've built using it. It is remarkably strong, water resistant(proof), doesn't swell, doesn't need special fasteners, various floor coatings (bedliner, epoxy garage floor paint, etc) will stick to it, it won't eat exposed frame metal, and it is priced in line with other flooring products. I would highly recommend spray foaming the underside of your floor, regardless of the products you use.

Thanks LRG, my plan has been to use the Advantech unless someone that has used it replies that it is not holding up. I do plan on spray foaming the entire house including underside of floor. Their HSOforum specifically says not for use on open bed trailers but no mention of closed.

Another quick question, who uses a treated bottom plate for your wall framing?

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
