gonehunting
I consistently fish walleye and crappie in depths of 30feet and under. What is the best transducer cone angle to have in this situation? I have a vexilar Fl-20. Thanks in advance.
mamohr686
A 19 degree transducer is what you want for that situation. A wider cone angle will also pick up suspended fish a lot better. The next narrower step would be the 12 degree transducer, which is a great choice from 30-55 ft. The only downside is when you get out to 30 ft with the 19 degree ducer, you will pick up all the lines in the house and the screen can get cluttered. I don't really mind that, and it's also fun to be able to tell which hole is going to get hit next.
Lawrence Luoma
Pro-View ducer is the only one I use no matter the situation!!
NCLaker
19 is too wide in my opinion go with the 12 or 9 degree
gonehunting
Today was the first time out with my new FL-28. It has the proview transducer. I was in 18ft of water and the auto depth would not stay set. I then switched it to low power and things worked fine. The problem is that I like the AZ 6ft on my screen but cannot do it with the low power. When in the AZ 6ft mode the lure appears rather large and hard to distinguish from other fish etc. My gain was turned down to zero. Any suggestions? Would a 12 degree transducer eliminate these problems?
fishwater
You could try weed mode, that makes the marks thinner. The manual suggests that you can run it to 30' reliably. I've been playing with a 12 degree a bit on my flx28 and it does display a bit fainter in an A/B comparison with the 9 degree. My guess is it won't eliminate all your concerns. My unit also has periodic issues with auto mode being overly jumpy, but mostly runs great.
