Have you checked out all the tutorials that Humminbird has on their web site? I watched a lot of them when I bought my 798 SI. They helped a lot. So did buying a AC/DC adapter so I could play with mine at home in the winter.

Looked at a lot of those tutorials, going to start going thru them again in preparation for the ice melting, just thought it would be nice to double down and goto a live seminar where you can ask questions.

Like your idea on the AC/DC convertor so I could set it up in my shop to play with. Not being a sparky, did a search for AC/DC convertors but not sure how to go from that to connecting to the Humminbird?? Even found a Humminbird forum where they talked about it but then they started talking about soldering in a fuse and my eyes glazed over...

So where can find the connections that I need??

Thanks!!!!

I'm not an electric guy either! It was simple. I bought a in-line fuse holder,( most auto parts stores)put in the recommended size amp fuse, and use crimp connections for the power wire. Hook your two wires to the converter and you're good. You don't get to play with the GPS, but about every thing else in demo mode. WARNING!! It only make you want open water worse! smile

Del, Did more searching and found some other instructions on a couple other websites - crappie dot com and bbcboards. Even had pictures smile

So I've been thinking as I'm out ice fishing that I should have marked more spots on my Bird - weedlines, rocks, etc. - so I can come back in the winter but trying to think how to transfer those waypoints besides the manual way. Was going to ask on here in a new post whether their was a handheld GPS that was compatable with my Bird but maybe the answer is to just bring the Bird with using a battery power supply and Genz box?? Any thoughts??

Heres my power source from Radio Shack.. It only outputs 3a, and 13.5v. so you dont need the fuse. I just bought an extra power cord and tied it onto the output posts.

Jason Halfen has just posted a new webinar up tonight. its viewed in 3 15 minute segments and is quite a good way to spend an hour or so.

Thanks Reddog!!! I was hoping you'd chime in!!! Isn't this the time of year that you really like to get out fishing on those SoDak rivers??

Thinking about this over the weekend, I was wondering why a person couldn't just get the extra power cord and hook it up to a small 12 volt battery?? I have more than a couple spares around for my Vexilar and underwater camera...

Thanks for the heads up on the webinars!!!

that is all I ever do when I don't have mine in the boat or truck(shut off the sonar and just use the GPS and lake chip during the ice fishing season). they don't draw that much juice so a 9 AH battery will last you long enough to play with the different features.

Ive got 5 days in the boat since Dec 4th, one in 2014. Way, way, way behind schedule.

You certainly can hook your unit up to a vexilar battery or the likes. Youll need a PC11 power cord, (about $19). Whether you need the 3 am fuse is debateable, but, I would advise you to put it inline.

You will have to force the unit out of simulator mode, which it boots up to when you dont have any accessories plugged in. transducer, gps module etc.

Jason Halfen has a full day educational seminar at the SBC Ramsey Mn location on mar 19th I believe. You can check it out on the link that I gave you previously. This is a serious educational seminar and is not free...

There is a seminar at Soo Sports in Sioux Falls Sd on Wed night. Mark Courts is the presenter..
