Clam Nitinol Spring Bobbers

I'm interested if anyone has tried these. I read a report from one person that they turn to noodles when exposed to colder temps. Other than that one report, I can't find any other information. I'm interested in giving them a try but before I do, I'd like to know if the noodle issue is a common problem or a "bad batch" problem.

I'm not interested in a noodle rod vs. spring bobber debate, which has already been covered.

on another forum its full of guys claiming they are junk. you can even see them limped over on an episode of ice team with keith kavajez.

i have 1 out of a pack we split to see for myself , in the cold it limps over and you can barely see the strike. it straightens out in the garage.

I did read that thread and found it quite interesting since I work with Nitinol wire (same diameter and smaller) every day.  The super elasticity that makes the alloy so attractive to this sort of design is also very temperature sensitive when processing.  Its very possible there was a bad batch (I’ve seen it many times doing development work) or maybe they are all that way.  I don’t know I’ve never tried them.

I do know however, that when a product is good it won’t take long for one of the staff to defend it here, but when its bad, mum is the word.  Could be a clue as to maybe why you haven’t seen much posted about them?  wink

Thanks. That's the forum I was referring to, which is the only post I can find with any comments at all. What I didn't like was the brand bashing banter that resulted.

Out of curiosity, I tried the cold experiment with a Nitinol leader and it took literally seconds for it to go limp. Crazy stuff for sure!

The no-news theory may hold true in this case and leads me to hold off until more real world experience surfaces.
