uptracker
I'm in need of a good Deadstick rod. I ordered a Frabill last year and the guides didn't line up with the reel seat and had a few blems. I sent it back and then saw a bunch on a shelve and they were in similar shape...discouraging.Anyways, I've got three TB rods that I really like. I want their Deadstick, but not sure if it would hold up where I fish. Their video claims that it's good for up to 3/8 oz. My problem is, I fish water 30-50' deep with current. I'm not sure 3/8's would be enough.Anybody rig a TB Deadstick with anything heavier than 3/8's?
fishwater
I'd call and talk with Lonnie at TB. You might want to go with a longer deadstick and cut off a bit of the business end to get the length you want while making it a little stiffer in the tip?Or, how about a stiff carbon rod and a rod rocker style holder so it can act as a tip-down for indicating bites and pickups? As a third option, you could just ride the Thorne deadstick a tad heavy and let it dangle as it might. As long as the fish are biting good I'm sure it'd work!
harvey lee
One could also have a custom rod made for about the same money. You will get exactly what you want.I have 2 TB Deadstick's and I do not remember how well it worked with a 3/8 oz jig. I use lighter ones and it works great. Very nice rod to say the least.I did have one break on me, no idea how it happened but I cut 2 inches off the business end and put a new tip top on it and still use it today for a bobber rod. The tip is a bit stiff with the 2 or maybe 3" gone but it does handle fish just fine.
minky
I have had really great luck with mine.I used mine to land a fat 23 inch plus walleye in ND last weekend.
Hobey
I wouldn't worry about the 3/8 weight. I use it for my perch rod on Mendota which means I use it up to 70 feet with heavy Mendota sinkers (long metal sinkers to get the bait down fast without tangling). There is some bend at the tip from the weight, but it is stiff enough to get a good hook set. I would guess the weight of the Mendota sinkers are at least a half ounce and probably more.
