Hey guys! My friend and his wife are currently living in Pensacola and have invited my girlfriend and I to come and stay for awhile. Extra bedroom so all we have to buy is the plane ticket. So great, we get to go down there and "hang out".. all I really am thinking is an opportunity to get some bassin in!! I am wondering if any of you guys have fished down there, or at least know of any good lakes? Targeting Largemouth only. and willing to drive within 100 miles from Pscola. Thank you!

I know there is good bassin in the area - certainly within 100 miles of Pensacola.

I have never bass fished in the area but have fished for Amber Jack, Red fish, scamp and snapper.

I can tell you the area is outstanding for those fish species. And I will also tell you that if you ever caught any of those fish mentioned, they put all freshwater fish to shame in terms of fight and strength. If you can, give those a try.

On another note and in tune with the post - look to Alabama too. Its within 45 min of Pensacola.

I think your potential of getting there to bass fish are endless.

Good luck!

If you get a chance to fish for amberjack, do it. In terms of fighting power, they crush anything else that I've ever caught. I would need to take a 5-minute break to let my throbbing arms rest after hauling in a big one! So. Fun.

I was down there in May of this past year with the CEO of the company I work for.

He has some friends that fish in the bay and surrounding areas for amberjack, etc...like I listed.

Your correct "that one guy" - those fish will kill you (in a good way). I caught 2 and told the group I was done. I was wore out! The fish were in 250 feet of water about 75 feet down. They were about the 70-80 pound size. I had popeye arms in short order. Awesome fish. Great eating.

I caught redfish down there too. My biggest was a 43.5 incher. Those are wicked fish too!
