Voltage regulator question for old polaris

Picked up a new voltage regulator from the shop for my old polaris rather than an aftermarket one due to hearing about the problems with the cheaper ones. The one they gave me has two wires (yellow and brown) with a dual female plug for each wire. The original off my machine has a single yellow wire and single female plug coming off the regulator. The sleds yellow(hot?) wire plug fits into the new voltage regulator but what do I do with the sleds brown(ground?)wire?

Do I bolt the brown (ground) from the sled to the mounting plate as it was with the original, or do I need to find a male adapter to plug it into the new regulator. I am getting conflicting info from the shop who say to get an adapter and the instructions that came with the regulator which say to disregard the new vr's brown wire.

Thanks for any input.
