s cable question

I recently bought an S cable for my FL8. I fish a lot of shallow ponds (6-10) feet. With the S cable I have to turn up the gain to 5. It seems to read better without the S cable. Whats the deal?

You should need to increase the gain when using the S cable to reduce power. By reducing the power you should be able to see less clutter on the screen caused by weeds and pick out the fish and your jig better.

So if the S-Cable reduces power by 50%, if used on a FL18 in LP mode, does that equate to 25% power output?

Originally=100% > LP=100%*50%=50% > S Cable=50%*50%=25%.

Has anyone else used an S Cable on Vex with LP Mode?

I suppose it would, however I've never heard of anyone needing to try that.

The low power mode was designed so you don't have to use an s cable.

I realize that LP and the S-Cable essentially do the same thing, but they advertise it as "Compatible with all Vexilar depth finders".

The reason I ask is there is an oxbow of the Missouri River (Trenton Lake)that we fish from time to time and the deepest point is 8'. Curious if LP in conjunction with the S-Cable would result in even crisper displays on the FL18?

I doubt it would do anything. Its meant to limit the signal so you can see fish and your jig better in thick weeds. If you have it, it won't hurt to try. To be honest, a flasher does not have much value when your much shallower than 8'. The cone angle is so small the fish is practically on the hook by the time you see it.
