Kansas?

I am thinking of maybe hunting Kansas this year ( in laws will be living in the KC area ). I am thinking Kansas because Missouri is a little spender for a NR.

My question is how hard is it to find land to Turkey hunt within say an hour of KC? Is public an option? Can a guy get permission on private land around there?

Not a lot of public land in Kansas. It will be tougher for sure.

MO has tons of public land. The reason their tag costs so much more is you get two tags for two birds. You don't get an option for one bird.

KS is prairie with woodlots and creekbeds. Public land is available if you look. Two of us shot 3 Toms within a 100 miles of KC a few years back(all public land - all mid season). You will see lots and lots of birds. Licenses are reasonable, at least when we visited there.

Temps were in the 70s and 80s the two days we hunted. WINDY.

When we go to MO we go at the end of the first week. Last day so if you fill one tag you can start hunting the new season the next day to fill the other tag. You can only take one bird a day

(f you do not take one during the first week, then you may take two during

the second or third week from April 22–May 5, but you may not take them both on the same day.)

You can go to Kansas and hunt the archery season also and get on private land just like NE.
