Chevy Encoder Motor

Recommended Posts

I got a 2004 Silverado and the encoder sensor is bad. Picked up a new motor and the new one says to have it in 2 hi which I thought it was. Well I took the old one out and the master keyway doesn't line up with the old one. Called a local mechanic and he said to turn the gear in the transfer case to line up with the new one. Well it does turn easy for a ways but not enough to line up with the new one. Not sure if anyone has dealt with this before.

You might have to have the load off the transfer case in order to get it into the position needed. All for wheels off the ground would do it.

Yes they are a pain if they are not in the right position. The fact that it turns easy is a good sign. I have seen a few that the shaft in the case freezes up and then it's big $ time.
