Ice Fishing For Trout

There are a lot of smaller lakes and ponds that are fishable and hold nice stocker trout.

I'm curious what to stick with. This year, I've parted ways with terminal tackle (well for the most part) and am wondering if people still stick with flies during the winter or should I stick with my tried and true spoons and jigs.

Seems to me that if a trout hits a fly during the summer, its also during the winter- and I also know that bugs are mobile all year long.... just a thought..

I know spoons do work when fish are on the chew, but I've had more luck with them used as a dropper setup. About 6-8 inches to a smaller ice jig and waxworms or eros.

Another thing to consider while fishing for trout, especially during cold water periods is the use of an attractant scent. Trout have acute olfactory senses so make sure you wash your hands of any unnatural smells.
