Savage Brewer
So if you could only have one, which would you chose: 4 Wheeler or Snowmobile? I am thinking about a future project, and am wondering which would you chose. Things I can think of: ATV / 4Wheeler advantages: More maneuverable Can be run all year round for other things Can use it in low snow or no snow situations Can be driven on asphalt/concrete/gravel to get to a destination Snowmobile advantages: Can go through deep snow Probably cover ground more quickly Safer if you hit a slush hole (well on most sport sleds, pin the throttle and ride across) not sure if that would apply as much to a utility sled with less hp and more weight. What other things would sway your decision, I know in an ideal world I would have 2 or 3 of each
JSK76
This topic is brought up every year. There's no right or wrong answer, everyone fishes different. I would say set a price and see what YOU feel is the best machine for that price. What ever one you get and (I'm sure you have somewhat of a hunch of what would work best for your needs) your not married to it, try it for a season and if you think you made a mistake there's a easy online line way to put it up for sale, starts with a C. Heck sell it 1/2 way though the season if it doesn't work out. That's assuming your not buying new. I've bought 3 sleds in the last 4 years and if you average the 2 I've sold I've made money on them. I also have a wheeler and I don't think I could answer this question I need both! I can't pull my wheel house on early ice with my sled and I can't take my atv up to Whitefish to fish for lakers. But if one had to go I guess it would be the sled, just because I can ride two up with a buddy and I do use the atv for my food plot and other things in the summer. usmcjsy
Get a RZR with tracks and be done with it.
toughguy
I say if you're fishing north of the metro go with a sled. In the metro or south go with a wheeler. Snow and slush are more of an issue to the north. More of the lakes in the south have plowed roads or at least beaten down paths.
Fred_Bear
Depends on where you fish, but for me it comes down to:Snowmobile: I can use it from early ice to late ice, no matter the conditions I can go fish where I want to.ATV (w/out tracks): I sit at home bored when there is deep snow/slush. I guess the other option is to fish off plowed roads on high traffic lakes but you can do that in a truck, right.Simple decision in my simple world. RiverChuckNorris
If you're buying strictly for ice fishing (as I did), I'd suggest sled. Between that and my truck, I don't think I miss out on any fishing opportunities. Not sure the same can be said with a wheeler. I can think of multiple times annually where a wheeler wouldn't have cut it.

Redlineracer12
I like ATVs over sleds, but I've never owned overly reliable sleds. Most trips we used to get by with a 2wd pickup; that proves why a 4wd ATV is more than adequate for me.
