Salt Corrosion

vex,

I've had the same thoughts as I primarily transport my ATV in the winter for ice fishing transportation. To combat it, I bought a travel cover. They run somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 to $150, but they are well worth the investment. I don't know what salt will erode on a wheeler, but it's bound to wreck something. So, I figure, a few bucks invested in a decent cover could easily offset the cost of shop labor and parts.

Do a Google search on ATV Travel Covers. There's plenty to be found.

vex,

I honestly don't know what brand it is. I got it when I bought my machine (Heinen in Osseo). The cover has a series of shock cords with hooks, two of which are strung through the bottom of the cover to snug her down. It fits like a glove which is what you want with a travel cover. However, if I had rack extensions, it would not fit. I am pretty sure you could find a cover that would accomodate extensions and whatever else you add on. You might have do some "Googling" to find one, but they are out there.

Ray,

I was wondering how you strap the machine down with the cover on? Do you strap overtop the cover or does the cover have slots through it to put the tie down straps through from the machine to the trailer?

Vkid, depends on your tie down area(s). If your tiedowns go straight down to the tiedown point, the cover can go on after the machine is tiedown. If you're one to tiedown the machine way out to the sides of the trailer, you'll have to come up with a solution so the cover will go straight down on the machine. I haven't seen any covers with tiedown holes in them but that's not to say they're not out there. I just haven't seen one.

Vex,

My tie downs points on the trailer are almost directly below where I hook up with the wheeler (front tow hooks and the hitch in back). Also, the cover I have doesn't come completely down to the trailer, but I know what cover you might be talking about.

You know, you could probably take the cover to a canvas shop to make alterations to accomodate straps. Heck, some canvas shops might even make a custom cover for you.
