Was hunting in NoDak and farmer friends told us to take their toys out and try to get stuck smile

New Gator "sporty" style, not sure of specifics;

Couple year old Honda Rancher with power steering and auto shift;

Couple year old Caman 800 something

-I didn't really pay attention to models but have a few observations...

First, the power steering is just awesome. I don't think I would get one again without it, after using it.

Second, I like the auto shifting, or non shifting, as opposed to my ES on my Honda. The Honda had option to use ES or auto, and the auto was pretty darn nice and smoother than I would have guessed.

I kind of liked the smaller size of the Honda over the 800, but boy did that 800 have spunk! And nice suspension. Seat was a bit hard on the 800 though... If I was buying one for my uses (ice fishing, putting around - not racing around) I would get the smaller Honda I think. If racing around the bigger one. It just floated down the roads and cornfields.

The Gator was easy to drive, pretty comfy, but like a Ranger I used last year, it was loud inside that cab. Drove through some pretty mucky stuff, ditches and mud around sloughs, and this just wasn't getting stuck unless you drove into the slough wink The biggest complaint is that the windshield would get mudded up, or water/ice formed on it and then you had to putt putt as you just couldn't see anything through it. They need wipers on that thing!

Farmers love the Gator, love the power of the 800 Canam, but day to day their goto atv are the Hondas. The Canam they said has had problems since day one, not starting, electronic problems, and they just can't depend on it, but they like driving it when it is working. The Hondas they have do most of the chores and is their workhorse, and with the power steering those are the ones they like for bringing in the cattle.

I was really impressed with the power steering, that is something on my list if I ever get another - probably by that time I won't be able to get one withtout it though, haha!

I rarely go and beat on my atv, never actually, so this was fun when my buddy said to go and don't bring them back unless they are muddy. Hehe, was a fun hunt, and we even got a few birds, and used atv to knock down paths in big cattails for easier walking in wink

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
