skillet
I just sat here for the last hour reading old lx6 and lx7 threads trying to decide if it is really worth moving from my lx 5 to the 7. I'm not sure I have made any progress. I really like my lx 5 especially the fine line mode. But there are some issues with it that have me thinking about an upgrade (puck clicks very loud, I'm lucky if I get 1 year out of a battery, occasionally my jig just disappears). I do not want to go with another brand as I already have other brands and I prefer the Marcum. So what is the real deal with the lx7. Does the puck make that clicking sound? Is it the exact same battery that is in my lx5? Will I lose sight of a small jig in deep water? I fish deep water for whitefish and cisco often with small jigs, I need to see a 3mm jig in 40 plus feet of water. Sorry this is so long winded but all the threads on the lx7 seem centered on a software upgrade and not on the questions I have above. So to summarize, can I see a small jig in deep water better with the 7 than the 5, and will I get more than one season out of a battery? Also I notice lag time when jigging in deep water with the lx5, Is the 7 faster?
Brad B
the difference is that the LX5 is a mechanical flasher and the LX6, LX7, or LX9 are digital flashers hence the ability to upgrade the software. the 5,6,7, & 9 all use the same transducer. the difference is in the unit not the transducer. they also use the same battery. batteries will last for multiple years if taken care of properly. the digital processor might be faster then a mechanical flasher when it comes to updating what the unit displays. hamms-scooter
All ducers make that clicking sound. They change pulses with how you set it for depth. There must have been an issue with your five.
holmsvc
The lx7 has a good sensitivity adjustment. Seeing jigs deep shouldn't be an issue. I upgraded from the 5 to the 7 last year and I am very happy with the 7.
FISHINGURU
I feel no need to go from my LX-5 to an LX-7.All flashers will eat batteries if you don't recharge them when they are low.All flashers will lose the jig periodically if you are fishing in a spot with any amount of current.
