older tire for mower

I have a small Murray rear engine riding lawnmower that i really like it is small enough to work on my yard but is still a rider so I can drink a beer while I mow... or not have to push it at least...

Anyway the front tire is bad and I need to find a replacement but to order a tire they want me to get a whole tire assembly for $150!!! I want to know if anybody knows a small engine/mower repair place that may have just a tire?

Fleet Farm sells tires, and tires mounted on wheels that might work.

This was my first thought. They sell mowers like that and I believe they also sell replacement tires but they are not found in the automotive department. I believe you'll find the tires in the same area where they keep the rest of the lawn mower parts.

I'm not sure they are the right ones, but they have some lawn and garden tires in the tire area at my fleet farm. They also sell tubes, which is how I repaired the tire on my murray rear engine rider up north. Did cost 5 bucks for the guy at the tire place in cook to put it in the tire.

PS. If it is the back wheel, don't drop the little key that goes in the groove on the axle while sliding the wheel back on. It will make you think the tranny or something went out. blush

It is a 10" wheel that slides onto a 5/8" rod. it is one that you pump with air... I tried Fleet and they had something similar and it fit! I thought it would work but it doesn't. GRRRR. So now I am at calling repair places looking for a wheel... Thanks guys.

There is, or at least was, a bone yard just north of Wyoming that you could see from the freeway. Jon's something or the other. A week or so ago I was on 35 and it looked like the place may have closed. But I would try and find them or a similar place.

Look on the side of the tire itself,There will be a number like 480X6>480X8.Get that number up,A 10 inch tire rim is pretty large for a small mower.On the numbers above the second number is the wheel diameter so if your tire is 10 inch it would be somethong like 480X10,480 being tire width and the 10 inch the diameter of the rim.

      I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...

      Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?

      I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.

      Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
