ZachD
Well I have a trip booked with two other guys for devils lake for 3 days of fishing. We are taking the train and it looks like we are limited to two bags each at 50 lbs 28x22x14. Any advice on what to bring and what to leave home.... Or any advice at all? ski_otter
I'd see if they make an exception for golf bags and rig one up to hold a whole lot more, 28" barely fits rods.My top listrods/tackleflasherwarm clothes
RiverChuckNorris
Two cases of beer, few tins of chew and a fresh pair of drawers. Everything else is a waste of space.
Capt. H (Ret.)
I hope you booked a day trip so you can see the country on the way up. I love riding trains. Did you book all accommadations once you get there and I assume you did?? If you don't mind sharing what it cost for the train ride and accommadations I would like to know for my own trip. If you don't care to share cost information, I understand. I hope you have a great trip and I am sure you will have a good time.Mike

We sadly are taking the night train leave Thurs night arrive Fri morn they pick us up then we drop our stuff off and go out to fish. We check out of the room Sunday but fish all day and they said we can come back to the bar and hang out till they have to drop us off at the station. I think the train tickets are going to be 150 round trip so all together for the tickets house lodging transportation and bait is 400. I'm going to bring a little longer bag than what is allowed

castmaster
I'm guessing your staying at Woodlands? If so I would check with them on what you can get by bringing on the train. I know when I looked into going we were told that they have a "friendly" deal with the folks on the train to allow you to bring more than the allowable bagage. ZachD
Yea at woodland like I said in going to bring a bigger bag than what is allowed I heard they don't care much on the train. I'm more looking for the I should have brought those items that you would t normally think of.. I guess I would just be happy with the clothes on my back a flasher and a rod... I'll figure it out. Good idea on calling I'll give them a ring and see what they say
holmsvc
I think you are on the right track bringing a couple rods and a couple tip- ups. If one of you going have an otter rod box or another hard sided rod carrier I would try to load the rods in that and see if you could bring that with. It would protect you rods and make it easier for you to pack. Personally I would bring 3 rods so that you have a backup and also you can have another rod rigged up with a different bait. The bite has been great on Devils all summer and the perch are showing up in good numbers this fall.
ZachD
Good to hear the perch are doing well.. A backup rod wouldn't be such a bad Idea I think We will just throw in one back up for the 3 of us. If another is needed I believe there bait shop would have some to buy.. Perch doing so well that reminds me freezer bags im sure I am going to want to bring some home
