A little color

Recommended Posts

Things are just beginning to turn, should be a good fall for color. If you need some tips for aerial work let me know. I've got a fair amount of experience on both sides, the flying and the photographing.

The lens you have will be perfect. A few tips to make things better,

1. High ISO to get a fast shutter speed. You want at least 1/2,000 sec shutter speed. This will help minimize vibrations in all small airplanes.

2. Minimum aperture that gives you the sharpest results (gives you faster shutter speeds). Depth of field is NOT an issue when flying a few thousand feet up.

3. Don't touch any part of the plane. Keep your arms, elbows, hands free so you can't use the plane as a bracing point. See vibration issues above.

3. Nothing loose on the camera. No lens caps, eye piece, strap (make sure the strap is around your neck) nothing that can drop or blow off in the wind. This is very important!

4. Don't stick your lens outside the window, it will only cause more vibration and buffeting.

5. Open the window if possible. If not wear dark colored clothing to reduce reflections from the plexiglass.

6. If your lens has VR try it on and off both. Some work better than others. Some just get messed up with the vibration in the plane.

7. Early in the morning or latter in the day will be best. Midday the light is very flat and gives no depth to your shots.

8. Have Fun!!!!!

Shots like this will be a breeze!
