Cool video. What size is that Stihl? Looks like it cuts pretty good.

Lots of work trapping through the ice. That leaning set works pretty good. Don't know if you can do it up there, but we can also make sets in the huts. Just make sure you bring some extra moss and grass along to pack into the hole where you break into the hut so the hut doesn't freeze up.

We trap in the huts in march on. I did not want to spoil the hut so I was trying baited connibears. Whats the best bait you use? Celery seemed to work good for me or apple.

Parsnips work pretty good. Cattail roots work too if you can get some. It also helps to wrap a little aluminum foil around the pole above the bait for an attractor.

Thanks Swamptiger: tinfoil around the pole above the bait I never would have thought of that. Parsnip that is like white carrot right? We are limited in our vegetable platters up here. Cat tails we do not have, so unless some one is flying to the Great White North with a bag of cat tails I think I will be out of luck in trying that.

For your leaning pole set I would flip it over. Have the bait above the trap, then when the 'rat comes to the bait it plants its feet on the pan of the trap. It would also help keep your trap hanging straight.
