heyguy
anyone have a favorite product for painting frames? Hoping to find a brush on paint that will work well without having to sand blast first. thanks!
Hawg
If it's not primed, POR 15 is an incredible product. It has to go on raw or rusted metal though. Some do powder coating but most of us have ended up with a bedliner type product. I used Rust o leum liner but it's too early to tell if it's any good. heyguy
Does POR 15 hold up to UV rays though?
arctic_scrap1
I think it fades in sunlight, but other than that it will be fine. I'm also curious on POR 15. How much do I need for an 8x16 house? Where are the cheapest places to buy it?
Dozer
Took 3 quarts to do my 8X16 and I didnt have any extra. I topcoated everthing that would be exposed to sunlight with POR15 "Blackcote". I missed a spot with the Blackcote on the toungue and the POR15 turned kinda a chaulky grey. I planned to spray mine but it was too windy out that day, I got impatient and moved it inside and started brushing. Started brushing the first coat a 4pm Saturday, by the time I got done with the first coat at 9pm the paint where I started was ready for the second coat. Got done with the second coat and at Midnite. Took a hr nap and started doing the Blackcote at 1am. They say if you wait too long between coats they wont adhere to each other. Next time I will wait and spray it! They also say once it dries on anything it can only be removed by "mechanical means" and they mean it! I still have spots where it driped on the concrete, I tried to chip them off and they only come up with concrete attached to them! Took a month to get it off my hands and the dog too! low277
I have used products from KBS coatings, I think it is very similar to POR 15, the KBS was recommended by someone I know. I brushed it on, wasn't sure if the brush marks would disappear like the instructions said, but they did after a few minutes. It looks good and so far I am happy with it.I would use it again. Hawg
I've seen a couple auto frames my brother has done with por 15, they are perfectly smooth and very impressive. He swears by it. My frame was primed so I couldn't use it according to the guys at POR 15. I wish I could have, I have 3 quarts and a prep sitting in my basement, $175 w/shipping worth. You're not faraway if you want it. $125 and a case of Bud Light. I'll be in St Cloud Saturday morning. PM me if interested.
