Lake maps/gps?

I'm buying my first flasher sometime this year.I am going with a vexilar I don't know squat about the GPS/Lake map chips Where exactly do these lakemaster or navionic chips go ? Just wondering what the average ice Joe does to be set up so I can find my spots and also view a lake depth maps.Thanks!

Jeremy, check out the Navionics app for your phone quite a bit

cheaper than a hand held gps and chip.

Thanks,I read about the navianics app online but Im not getting what it says.If I put this app on my phone,will I be able to see most lake maps which include depth maps,GPS,and mark my hotspots?
