Insulating garage door

When I insulated my doors I used leftover board insulation. I had to double layer to match the depth thickness. I also had to trim out a section to lay in the bottom channel to make it fluch at the bottom of the door. Then I layed the bigger sheet on top of the bottom section and worked the upper section up into the top channel and then pressed the 2 seams together. Then I taped over the seam to keep the sections from popping out. I doubt I have the same R-value as an insulated door but it does help.

Next time I will buy insulated doors right off the bat.

They make 2'x4' blanks of foam panels for insulating doors. They are more pliable than say 2" pink foam board. How u have to tuck the panels in is what makes pliable a better choice. Then u can cut to size. Or, go to the big box store and buy a few sheets of foam and go for it. Don't use fiberglass. And r value isn't much of an issue, since you won't be thicker than two inches, and u typically get 3 or 4 r value per inch thick
