amateurfishing
how do you store an 8ft plus rod in your boat?I just picked up 2 with leadcore but they are longer than my boat floor and I am getting to the point where 8 rods in the boat are too much for me & my son when were r out and my styro horizontal 6 rod holder is not enough and neither is boat floor, looking for safe n easy ideas. I do have couple slots off side console that can work but rods always seem to get in way when enroute to fishing spot
JohnMickish
Do your rods collapse down to 7' (telescoping handles?) or are they 2 piece rods? You may have to break them down for safe storage.Using some sort of rod sock with make the rods less cumbersome when stored as well. Make sure you take the cranks off when stored, it would be bad to hear that your son or you got snagged.
amateurfishing
mine are 2 piece, may have to look into taking apart & rod "socks" I have caught everything in the world on cranks, much more than fish, including fingers, net, anchor rope, shoe laces & shoes, coats, cap, just to name a few. as efficient as they are in the water, they are complete out of water from "time to take off in till gets in tackle box"

TruthWalleyes
In a 10' rod locker The 10' rod sticking out the back stores just fine in my rod locker...Had to custom design the whole boat to accomplish this, but...I love it! Picture from Sunday night on the Croix. I wish i had put my $250 st.croix/shimano combo in the rod locker before i went flying through 3' waves Monday...It's sitting in 70 fow now

amateurfishing
rod socks sound like great idea......TRUTH, THAT is an awesome idea, right now im about a foot short but brainstorming on retrofitting etc. thx for the pic and thought
TruthWalleyes
If you decide to do something like that, spend lots of time brainstorming so you get it right the first time. Rod socks will definitely help if you have rods bunched together. I've never owned one, but have seen good things in others boats. Vertical rod storage works well too. 3-5 vertical rod holders placed in the right spot makes for good organization. I have 3 in my boat and they are mainly used now for quick temporary storage - like when i'm rigging a rod or two, or getting two rods ready while i'm fishing with two others etc... Until you have the means to store long rods, getting 2-piece rods will help you out quite a bit. Just takes more time breaking them down. amateurfishing
got some rod socks today, should help a lot, I do have an unused side of boat with wiring that I could add more storage but would like ideas cause the carpet is attached to the outside hull on the inside for this area, would prefer anything that would not require drilling holes in side of boat
