OEM breakpads and replacements

Recommended Posts

I have a 2008 Toyota Highlander with 80k on it, the break pads are at around 50%. My parents have a Lincoln MKZ with 70k and the break pads need to be replaced.

If I am going to purchase pads from a store or rockauto, what are the pads to buy to get the same longevity out of them as the original that came on the vehicle that lasted so long?

Seems I have always bought cheap pads on prior vehicles, and end up replacing them every 30k.

If you want same/similar performance and life then the safe bet should be factory-style pads. Doesn't Rock Auto have a listing for OEM/factory style pads? They usually have several different options for most parts.

I'd also check with the dealer. Sometimes you get a surprise on pricing. Usually it's an unpleasant surprise but not always.

Wagner Thermo Quiet, Raybestos Professional Grade and another brand called Centric have all done well for me. I don't hesitate to use any of the three and in fact ( if it matters to you) the Centric Parts Received the Toyota Quality Alliance 2012 Supplier Gold Award.

"The Gold Supplier Award is presented to top Toyota parts and accessories suppliers who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to product development, product quality, operational quality and product support."

Most OEM pads are likely made by one of these three anyway.
