moving bear baits further back in bush.

Recommended Posts

I and a VERY good friend have had a well established bait for a couple years now. It has had a wide range of different bear on it( big, small, and collared bear). The problem is last year some rat came along and stole the camera off the bait. What we did was opened a new bait( or he did I should say) about 150 yards farther back from it. With that in mind, we put in abunch of trails so not to find it. Question is and experience is how long has it taken them to find the new one. On an average of course. I know they will its just when.

100 yards, one or two nights at most.

I stopped my camera thieves by installing a second camera 10-20 feet up in neighboring balsme trees looking down over the bait area or trail going in. Amazing just how many things come close to a bait but not all the way into it. Moose, dogs, deer, wardens, other hunters and of course thieves all visit bait trails. Thieves figure they take the camera they won't get caught. Two camera trick and now my uploading cameras they don't stand a chance.

Jonny, whats it cost to have them uploaded to your computer right at home per month? We are giving it some time on this one right now. They know its been there from previous years. It is a bait that usually takes a week to find and after that GAME ON !! Its ony water in the area is a couple huge dug older sand pitsabout 3 to 4 hundred yards from it.The pits are surrounded by like rushes etc and heavy! cover all the way to the bait pile.. But on a normal year it has a very wet swampy area right beside it. The last two years has been extremely dry though where were at. Further more. I think we will set up a second camera just to catch the culprits doing his DIRTY DEEDS!!!
