Shimano Sellus Rods

Has anyboday used these rods? Just curious if any one has some one the water time with them. I picked up a casting version at Cabelas and it seemed like a decent rod in the $50-$60 price range. Some online reviews were good.

So has anyone at least picked up one of these and gave it a shake? I assume they are too cheap if no one has used them. Some of the online reports made it sound like they fished better than their price would indicate.

I was looking for some 'cabin rods' the other day - rod/reel combos I leave at our family cabin for whomever is staying there can knock around with and that I won't have a meltdown over if they break them - and checked out the Sellus rods. For the buck, they were actually pretty nice.

For just a bit more $, the Clarus series is really a great value for the money as well. A few years ago I broke a spinnerbait rod on a trip and replaced it with a Clarus because it was all the local tackle shop had on hand, thinking it'd do for the trip and I'd upgrade when I got home. Ended up loving the rod and used it for several years.

Really amazing what quality you can get for $50-$60 compared to what you could get for the same $ even a few years ago.

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up getting the 7'2" JignWorm rod this weekend. I originally had bought 2 Fenwick SilverHawk MH rods at Cabelas cause they were on sale for $60, but they were pretty stiff and I didn't need two like that, so I took one back and got the Sellus. Fished with it yesterday and it seems like a decent rod for $60 bucks. It has a little more flex on the tip, so it casted pretty nice and worked good enough for me to haul in a few bass with. I am due for a crankbait rod sometime, so I will check that one out too.

Dietz, I was wondering what other techniques you think the Sellus crankbait rod would be good for. I bought one last fall and ended up getting another this winter. I mostly used it for squarebills and lipless cranks last fall and it worked good.

Thanks.

Ruddy- A lot depends on your own fishing style.. It might be a little light in the backbone department, but I would think it would be a decent spinnerbait rod as well as decent chatterbait rod as well. Topwaters, like a pop-r it would be very good as well.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to give them a try with those techniques. Bass season can't come soon enough!!

Glad you were able to get one of those Vendettas Juan. I got one in Jan and they seem decent for $30! For $80 bucks there are probably better options out there.
