fishuhalik
Any of you guys try em? I just bought some used goose dekes and some of the heads are a little rough. Also would like to flock all my mallard floaters. Any tips?
booger
I bought the donjer stuff (think they changed their name). For the mallards I mixed the black with the green, otherwise the green was green like a poker table. For geese I just sprayed them down with a power washer and repainted and flocked them. You can paint over the prior flocking. The other kit I would look at is the Aero products. Biggest advice I can give is to use rustoleum flat OIL based paint. For the mallards I had some green that was water based latex and that didn't hold the flocking at all. I ran the heads under water after sitting a week or 2 and quite a bit of flocking came right off. Did the same after using oil based and hardly any came off. I used a rubbermaid tub to recover the extra, a cooking sifter/screen to apply, a mask, latex gloves. Don't flock the white, it just picks up dirt. I'd also recommend if doing many or doing other painting of dekes to pick up some nice brushes. Then with using oil also have plenty of paint thinner. Mine turned out really good, especially the goose heads which were like yours in pretty rough condition. Now I'm just wondering if I need to dry brush the bodies since some paint has scraped off there as well.
Muthagoose
Flocking is all I do unless asked to paint... I never thin rustoleum even when air brushing detail...Doing second coating of flocking it toughens em up.. Prep is crucial. A simple brass wire brush will do the job if you only doing a couple dz.. I used to flash them with thinner, heat even went with gloves to avoid any oil transfer from my skin to the already oily plastic..That ended when I simply roughed up the surface. However if ya go to the G&H HSOforum their video shows them still using that procedure. I flock white all the time infact that's what Im doing today on some 26" goldeneyes and cleaning it is simple.. Ill give you a hint how do ya get the grass stains out of say football pants?? Billy mayes made it famous...
