transducer interchange??

Had a lowrance 520c..upgraded to HD w SS/DI. Since the 520 ducer is Already in place is it necessary to use the one that came with new unit? Would there be a difference in sonar imagery?

I don't know but I suspect the SS/DI means Side Scan and Down Imaging. Both of these technologies will utilize multiple sonar signals. I also suspect you 520C was using a skimmer transducer and I bet it doesn't provide this capability. I'm only guessing though.

The DI /SS has its own ducer ..this is strictly the sonar one

as far as I know the transducer from the 520 should be the same as the new one with the HDS. like you already know the SS/DI has it's own transducer. I had a 520 and was going to upgrade to the HDS and Structure scan but decided to switch brands and go to Humminbird instead. as long as they are both the blue end they should be interchangeable. I would keep the new one as a spare should the old one burn out. the transducer it self shouldn't effect the image the new HDS unit will have a better image do to a faster, better processor in it then the 520 had.
