Taurus in need of Depends?

Recommended Posts

Good old '06 Taurus is at it again. Wife took it in for oil change last Fri. came right home and parked it in garage all weekend. She left about 1.5 hrs. before me this morning and when I got into the garage I found a big puddle of fluid on the garage floor that streaked out into the street,

actually for 2 blocks. Looked like something out of Hansel and Gretel. Anyway, she took it in and they said it wasn't due to anything they did-just coincidence. Uncertain if it was oil or tranny fluid, which I, too, didn't have time to look at till I got home tonight and it appears to be tranny fluid. The power steering fluid appeared up to level. Tranny fluid level was not low, though and the dealer also checked it when she took it in today and it was ok at that time. So it's back at the dealer tonight, awaiting a big diagnostic inspection tomorrow. From the location, it would seem to be from the rear of the tranny-or at least closest to the firewall. Any ideas? Hope this isn't another pocketbook drainer, but with our track record with it, who knows? This vehicle certainly wasn't one of Ford's bright lightbulb ideas.

If it isn't the cooler lines leaking the fluid, Ask the shop to check the rubber vent hose on the top of the transmission, we have seen many of these rubber hose's swell shut over time then it will force the fluid out of the transmission, Many of these get a miss-diagnosis.

Well, the beast is home again tonight. I was told it was the breather vent and hose. So far nothing seems to be leaking, but we'll see tomorrow morning. So thanks for the ideas. Yeah, Jeremy, I had a nice heater core disaster several years ago in a Sable, but this stuff smelled like transmission fluid. This is definitely one of those vehicles that'll drive me nuts. Right now we have too many dollars tied up in it to get rid of it. Very frustrating.
