rbs
I was up at leech this last week fishing and there looks to be some pretty nice places that a guy could do some diver hunting up there. Since I have never hunted up there can anyone tell me if it gets really busy later season and if it is as good as it looks? Thanks!
fishuhalik
Leech can be great, both early and late season. I've never actually hunted it, usually focused on Winni/Cut Foot/Bowstring River System, but I know guys that do and they do really good sometimes. And yes, it can get pretty busy, especially early in the season.
ringer
I spend 3-4 weeks up there every fall, its fun, can be a lot of work with big waves, get a lot a variety of divers but never much quanity, always waiting for the magical big push but it never really happens & i've been up there with several days of northwest winds & cold weather. leechlake
my parents have had a place near Benedict since 1952. The lake empties into the Kabekona River that runs into Kabekona Bay of Leech. If you saw the river and all the rice you'd think if was puddle duck Nirvana.I've hunted that River for about 35 years. The last 15 or so has been terrible. When I was first hunting and in my early twenties it was unbelievable. The first three weekends were awesome and then after MEA the northern ducks came in and up until Deer Hunting wave #2 hit. These days we get a few woodies the first couple weekends and a stray mallard or two but it really isn't worth the effort and non-comparable to how it used to be. I guess the flight pattern has moved West.End of October and into November the Mergangers move in now. Don't see many ringbills or blue bills to speak of. I'm not at all fibbing or trying you to not hunt the area just telling it like it seems to be. I think there are way better options. I spend my time grouse hunting way more than duck hunting and for my son's sake I wish the ducks were like they used to be.
