Crankshaft Position Sensor Relearn Help!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have a 2004 Chevy 2500 6.0 gas, 140xxx miles

My truck has been acting goofy for awhile now, not staying in overdrive when empty, but stays in overdrive just fine when towing. The CE light comes on when not towing, giving a random misfire code.

After some "savvy" internet research lol crazy , I've found the culprit. The timing chain has a little stretch in it (normal for the miles) causing two sensors to send contradicting messages when there is little torque being used, which the computer diagnoses as a random misfire.

I need a "Crankshaft position variation relearn" procedure done. All it takes is a fancy code reader/diagnostics tool and 3 minutes of time. I figured I could just have the a local Chevy dealer do it, but they want $150 just to diagnose, and then said I would need to have the plugs/wires/coils replaced first before they would do the relearn.....w t f... crazy I kindly told them to [PoorWordUsage] off.

Anyways grin Anybody know where I can have this done first without all of the unnecessary "fixes"? Preferably somewhere between Maplewood and Forest Lake, but not necessary.

2001 with the same motor and a similar problem and the relearn solved it. You're right it takes all of 3 minutes and can be done in the parking lot, so paying $150 for it is insane. I see you are in Stacy. I would call Berry's garage in Wyoming. They can do it there for much less. I'd talk to Duke, the owner, and tell him you just want to try to see if it will solve the problem before digging in to other possible causes.

Good Luck

Thanks again Jeramy. My fiance ran the truck to him yesterday for the relearn (I'm working overseas) so somebody has to get the krap done at home smile

I don't know what she did to him but he didn't charge her a penny LOL! grin

Thanks again smile
