How to gain confidence in a jig?????

Yes RK, I do need some lighter jigs. They were definitely feeding on small sunfish higher in the water column so my 3/8 jig was just zooming past them to the bottom. Would I need 1/4 oz or something even lighter than that to get a slower drop?

I don't really carry many full size jigs lighter than 3/8 oz, so I'd try to slow it down with a bulky trailer. Strike King Rage Craws are a pretty good parachute, for example. I've even stuck another skirt on jigs to slow them down. Or, go to a finesse jig that's lighter.

The Nortstar Custom Baits Black series jig would have worked John.

It is a jig with an 80 strand skirt, add a bulky trailer like a baby brush hog and the fall rate would be extremely slow.

But knowing the lake and spot you are talking about I would have thrown a wacky jig senko combo like you. A 3 or 4 inch swimbait on a 1/4 oz jig would be something else I would throw.
