Adding electronics to boat - suggestions

ameyers41

Question

Here's my current setup on a older Lund Pro V tiller:

Humminbird 798 SI in back, SI and high speed ducers on transom

Old eagle LCD graph in front, hooked up to trolling motor ducer

I have a Marcum LX-7 and LX-5. I'd love to be able to add both in the boat. I know they have a new LX high speed open water transducer. Here are my questions:

1) Anyone have any experience with interference mounting the marcum transducer on the same plate as two humminbird transducers on the transom?

2) Does Marcum make a splitter that can send the single transom transducer signal to both my LX-7 mounted in the back and the LX-5 mounted in front? Or is there a generic one that could work?

Thanks in advance,

T

1. go into your menus on the bird and see if you can switch the frequency of the 2d sonar. some models give you the option of 200khz and 455khz. if the 798 allows this ,switch it to 455khz. the beam will get narrower but since it is no longer on the 200khz frequency it won't interfer with the marcum since marcums are 200khz only. if you can't swith the 2d sonar to 455khz then you would need to try adjusting the setting on both units to reject any interference you might have. switching the 2d sonar will not effect your SI or DI since they are on the 455/800khz frequency. also if you can't switch your 2d sonar you could just run strictly the SI/DI and turn the 2d sonar off altogether, then you for sure would not have interference with the marcums.

2. as for 2 marcums together. they do not make a splitter so your only option would be to buy two of the high speed transducers and then adjust each marcum like you would if you were ice fishing with them side by side.

Thanks Brad. Switching 2d off might be the way I go. I plan on using the Lx-7 for traditional sonar and the 798 for SI/DI and mapping. Too bad I can't use the same transducer for my LX-5 up front, but I guess whoever I'm fishing with will have to make do with the cheap Eagle I have up front.
