coiled up line

I bought a lighter ice fishing rod combo. It was spooled with 2lb test line.after a few times I noticed the line got goofy and coiled.I cut off about thirty feet of it and still coiled.What Happened?

Most line that comes pre spooled is junk at best, buy some quality line and do it yourself or have a local baitshop spool it for you...

Esox hit it on the head, grab some new line at the store and re-spool even the cheaper line at the store will more than likely always be better then what comes pre-spooled. Plus you never know where that line came from in the first place, might be leftover junk from years before.

A trick I've found to keep coil down is to run the new line (after it's been spooled) under some hot water for a few seconde then dry. Forget who taught me this a while ago but I do it to all my spooled lines now and seems to work pretty well.

Sometimes prestretching the line goes a long way to reducing those line coils right before you fish.
