Muddy water is coming

Just a heads up to anyone planning on fishing the April 1st C&R Trout Opener in Minnesota. The temperatures over the next week are going to really make things messy in SE MN. If you're planning on coming down here, plan on fishing short headwaters streams rather than some of the main waterways. By Thursday or Friday, I expect streams will be rather messy, and by next week, most of the snow will be in full on melt mode and the streams will be way up.

If you are doing any sort of traveling down to the area, it might be wise to call the fisheries offices, or ask one of us locals for stream updates.

outlook is still showing pretty cold temps at night... until the over nights start staying warm... you won't have to worry about the chocolate milk... they'll get higher and stain up a little... lets hope for these teens in the night time... will help ease the streams instead of blowing them out...

The nice thing about those sreams is that it dosn't take long for them to go down. High water brings me upstream and low water brings me downstream...all within 20 miles or so. Lets hope it dosn't rain too much tho.

Can't Wait!

I can't tell you for sure because I've been out of town the last few days, but judging by what I've seen on the DNR's water monitoring site, it appears that everything has mellowed out pretty well. You shouldn't have a hard time finding clear water now.

I can update you tomorrow as I'll have a chance to get out and take a look at some of the streams while I'm working.
