DT Border Patrol TC1 Containment system

CANOPY SAM

Recommended Posts

We own a 9 acre parcel of river bottom land that is our hobby farm. The western edge of our the property is bordered by a gravel road, about 100 feet from the house.

I've been asking around and doing some research about wireless pet containment systems, and a good friend, and former professional trainer recommended this system.

Do any of you have any experience with this system?

My two concerns are these 1) The collar is the largest on the market for wireless containment systems. Our dog is a large Black Labrador, so that's not a huge concern. 2) There appears to be a small, flimsy radio antennae on the collar. Most folks who review these sorts of things appear concerned this little antennae will break.

I sure would appreciate your input and experience. We want our dog to roam our property freely, and the TC1 system has the largest programmable range available, and it's portable. We just don't want him to run off, or get hit by a car on the nearby gravel road.

Thank you.

good luck finding a system. I will be following this thread closely. I have 26 acres and would like a system as well, but so far have come to the conclusion I would needed to run wire. I've picked up 2 good dogs off the highway, and don't want to do that again! That is a sickness in the pit of your stomach that you don't forget.

Ryan. Do an internet search of this product name. They are on the spendy side, but they have an adjustable range that'll cover hundreds of acres. You can adjust several "rings" within the range to increase the bump as the dog reaches further out.

When I searched this unit on the web I came up with many, many dealers that sell it, as well as dozens of other wireless containment systems???

The really cool thing about this system is that it's the only "satellite" operated system available. Hence, one can program a huge perimeter, and set the center point wherever you want it. So you can set the center point in the middle of your 26 acres, set the perimeter as close to the edge as you want, and program the collar. Once programmed you can turn off the handheld, and your dog is free to roam most of the 26 acre range. A satellite signal will notify the dog when it's reaching the varying perimeters.

I'm not completely understanding your post Ryan? It sounds as if you haven't found a wireless containment system? There are lots of good products out there. Just depends on what your needs are.

I wish I would have heard about this system before I put mine in a couple years ago, I don't even think it was around. However I buried wire around my 5 acres with just myself and the wife and it took less then 6 hours. It took longer to trench then it did to bury the wire. The wireless systems I looked at when I put mine in would not work because once the dog got behind the shed the signal would have been lost. I'm guessing by the time one figures in the cost of the system I bought, renting the trencher, and if your time is worth anything the system your talking about would probably be a wash or close to it.

Yea. I'm pretty pumped about it, but I sure would like SOME feedback from someone who knows something about them, or has experience using one, BEFORE I pull the trigger and buy one.

They run near $6 Franklins, but I kinda figure it's worth it for a "remote" system, and not having to bury all that wire. We also inherited the dog for free, and he's just an AWESOME dog, so I want him around for many, many years to come.

They even say you can take the system with you hunting. Program the center point of the zone for the middle of the section, and you're good to go. Also, with this system, the dog doesn't get zapped coming back into the zone, if by chance he does make it out thru the perimeter. From what I've read, this is a very confusing message for a dog...coming back to where it's supposed to be, and getting "corrected" for it on the way back in! I'm told the TC1 doesn't do that.

Can someone, anyone at least point me in the direction of someone who has one, or has used one? I know they're pretty new, so perhaps there just aren't many out there?
