Final Deer Harvest Report 2012

Recommended Posts

Last year some guys got in trouble hunting the SNA even though the handbook said they could. This year the changed it in the handbook. The DNR needs someone to proofread their handbook. It always has some very vague and unclear statements. If you are unclear about something you better call the local DNR OFFICER in that area to get clarification or you will be charged.

I too have looked at the maps the DNR has on the State Parks page, and other pages...and compared them to the permit area map you get with the regs...they're information is different in each case...to find the true answer, I checked the Mn Legislature where they clearly define the boundries of each zone...Schmoe is correct about 287...it says in the rules that is "Itasca State Park."...I also looked at that little portion of 184 that, (according to the permit area maps), lies west of 287...but I am not familiar enough with the area to know where some of the lines are as some are county roads and some are simply borders between sections...I can see how someone could easily make the mistake of "thinking" there was areas they could legaly hunt with such ambiguous information...On the other hand, it could have just been someone who ended up with an extra deer and looked for the "closest" intensive zone without knowing about or paying attention to the boundries, and just called in and registered a deer or two or three there!
