earth auger powerhead

Just saw an add for these can they be used on the ice? Look like an Eskimo auger.

I would think the powerhead would work, but you would need ice cutting blades on the auger itself. Might be geared to run at higher/lower rpm's than one that is labeled as an ice auger and might take longer to get through the ice.

The earth power head has heaver gears and can be used for Ice auger !

The earth auger that I used years ago ran at very low rpm and would have taken significantly longer to cut a hole in the ice, but I do believe it would work with the proper cutting blade.

I have been using an Earthquake power head for twelve years. They are made by Eskimo I think. I got it free when I moved here and just had to purchased the ice auger bit from Eskimo. It has worked well for the last twelve years. It has always been a pain to start in the cold but it has (almost)always worked.

This may not be good for the motor but I took out the air filter and hit it with some starting fluid whenever I start it. It seems to cut as quickly as any other Eskimo I see and nearly as fast as some older Strikemaster augers with dull blades. It sure beats a hand auger!
