German Shorthair Pointer Bloodlines

I'm just in the process of going to pick out my pup so it's a little late for me but I'm curious about bloodlines when it comes to Pointers.

I picked my breeder due to recommendations and also after doing a site visit I was comfortable with the operation and also that several friends of mine have dogs from there and ALL of them are excellent hunters and family dogs and pretty much hunted out of the box.

That being said, a friend of mine was looking at the pedigrees of mom and dad of my pup about then freaked out when he saw that both parents are "Von Greif" dogs. Evidently this is something desirable but the other part that impressed him was that there were master hunter and junior hunter awards on both sides.

Why is this something that would make my buddy freak out? All he said is that Von Greif lines are very desirable for pointers.

Von Greif is an old line of GSP's that did well in field trials way back when. The other old field trial line is Mosegaard. There are plenty of lines that have great appeal now days that aren't from the above lines. Both of those lines are sort of extinct now days. A junior hunter title means nothing. The dog in my avatar is a JH. Not something to hang your hat on. SH and MH are nicer to see. The field trial titles FC, AFC, NFC are what I personally like to see. Not sure what you mean by freak out but if there are MH and FC titles that means that your dog has some potentially decent breeding behind it and with training could turn out to be a very nice birddog.

in my last breeding I did there were a combined 21titled dog in 3 generations. Yes that's 100 percent. my lines go back to dennis braths dogs and doc reeser. hard to argue with perfection like that.

with that being said my newest addition is a double line bred Dixielands rusty female

We nicknamed one of our dogs Rusty Butt. She has some Dixieland Rusty in her lines. Liver and white (avatar) with one liver patch on her hind end, hence rusty butt.

Great dog.
