Okuma SLV

Great reels for the price. No need to drop big $$ on a low wt reel, since you'll likely rarely ever use the drag system. And if you do, they aren't too bad at all. I have two SLV's in the 5/6 wt. For $30-40, you really can't beat them.

I own 2 SLVs and love'em... Will own a couple more before the season hits full swing... Great LA reel at a low cost... Okuma makes some solid reels at rock bottom prices...

Also to be perfectly honest... 3/4wt is a line holding reel... not a work horse... you'll probably never fight a fish on the reel unless you really hook into a monster

Perfect guys, I appreciate the input. That's exactly what I was thinking, using a low weight rod would mainly be for small stream fishing here and I was thinking I doubt the drag will get used much so to drop triple digits on a reel seemed unnecessary. Now I just have to find the deals like Ted was referring to! I seem to find them for around $50.

If you're looking on the lower end... maybe even check the Okuma Sierra.. Have read good things about that reel as well.... cheapest SLV I can find right now is a 4/5 for $50 shipped on the auction site... that's honestly right around the price I pay for them... which is still about $15 cheaper than average

i'd probably go 5/6... 4/5 will leave little room for backing with a 5wt line... not that you'd need it... but if you wanna chase small carp on a 5wt... the more backing the better

Also 5/6 will allow for over lining... if you ever think it's for you... some people like it.. others don't.. what i'm trying to say is the 5/6 just gives you more options for the 5wt rod

This guy knows what's up. Saw my backing a handful of times last year on carp with my 6 wt rod and okuma SLV 5/6.

one other thing... I use one of my 5/6 slv's for ice fishing - the 12" line retrieve is awesome for fishing over the 25-30foot basins up at the cabin.

Good deal. Those CPX rods aren't too shabby either. I have the older version (CPS) and wouldn't trade it for the world. The thing is an absolute cannon for a 5 wt.

By the way... What brought you out to Colorado Springs? Are you missing the lakes yet, or are the man-made reservoirs out there keeping you busy still? Have any plans to head up to high country lakes this summer?

Yeah I got a heck of a deal on it so I'm excited to test it out. I was working for a software company in downtown St. Paul and there was an opening and position out here that they wanted me for so they payed to relocate me. After coming out and checking out the office I couldn't refuse - I think I will wind up back in Minnesota but for now I'm having fun out here. I definitely will miss the lakes and the Bass back home but the reservoirs have been a fun new challenge. The trout and lakers have been a fun change of pace too! I've been up to some of the higher mountain lakes to ice fish this winter and I can't wait til they open up around here so I can put my kayak in. I figured I would be cheating myself if I didn't give these gold medal rivers out here a chance too!

Just an update. I received my Okuma SLVs. I strung up the 5/6 with 20lb backing and then some Rio WF5F line. And I will be stringing up the 2/3 today with 20lb backing and Rio DT3F today after work and using it this weekend on my St. Croix Legend in hopes of some Splake and Brookies. Once the ice melts I will be putting it on my TFO Signature Series 3wt. Super excited and I will most likely be buying some extra spools.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
