225 Opti

Just got a pretty good deal on an 06' 225 Optimax for my boat. Did some research online and found more good than bad reports on the motor. Just wondering if anyone here more locally has one and what your experience has been and things to do or look out for once I get it installed. Thanks!

Did it come with the smartcraft gauges? If not, I recommend them as it makes keeping tabs on everything so much easier.

Not sure if it comes with smartcraft or not but I agree, from the research I have been doing that it's a good tool to monitor what's going on with the motor.

I have the '05 and so far, it has been bulletproof. Typical maintenance costs every couple of years (every year...but every 2-3 bring some extra $$). I had an '00 135 Opti before that and it was one of the bad batches, i.e. all the V6s in that era went sour (powerhead) and probably thru and up to the '01's had that issue.

I've had a 02 for 5 years now and zero problems with it.

NAMA, the only bad Optis were the 2000 class 200 and 225. It has been fixed since then and I believe your newer one (and any newer than 01) should be pretty solid. Enjoy it!
