DSL modem/router

I currently just use the combination modem/router, which is an Actiontec 724wg, that I got from my DSL provider. My question is would I be better off getting my own equipment? Would I see any improvement in performance?

If you get your own you won't be paying the rental fee. In terms of performance, not really. While that thing isn't an "n" network, most of he time you aren't transferring between things on the network that need that full speed. The modem is still much faster than what you can get out of DSL.
