Bryce
Reports I'm getting are that the birds are getting hammered on Mud. Hmmmm... No reports from Gullguide? Do we have some top secret/ hush-hush gunning going on? (not very becoming of a moderator) Or do we have a possession limit dilemma? i.e. I've eaten so many ducks in order to keep hunting that I can't type for the flight feathers sprouting from my fingertips. Haven't seen a post from Blackjack either. Hmmm... The plot thickens.
GullGuide
Bryce,It all depends on when you get the reports and who you get them from.Last weekend was good, although not super. It all depended on what spot you were in.Over the last 3 days (Thursday trough Sat), it was pretty much hit or miss. Thursday, whenever the snow stopped we had decent shooting, but again this depended on where you were at. Most birds were Ringbills with a few Widgeon mixed in. Friday pretty much sucked. The fog held the birds off at least until we left at Noon. Not many flying and hardly any Mallards.Saturday was a bit better. Shooting was slow until about 9am but then again it depended on where you were. Mallards were once again scarce. We did mannage to bag a few Mallards, Redheads and Gadwalls. There were some Widgeon, Ringbills, Scaup and Pintails using the lake however.Lots of skybusting going on which is typical of Mud. We stayed until 3, but not much happening from Noon till 3.When you hear that they are "hammering em", it is all reletive. I have yet to see a real good shoot out there yet this season. On Mud it all depends on where you sit. For each wind, there are spots which are much better than others regardless if there are birds around or not. We sat in a bog fairly close to two other groups. The group on our Right had decent shooting, I think they bagged 10 birds for 3 hunters. We bagged 7 between the two of us while the group of 4 hunters to our left only got one bird and that one bird was all they had come close enough. So take what you hear with a grain of salt. Bryce
Just giving you a hard time since we hadn't heard from you. My reports were from earlier in the week. I'm sure MEA pressure slowed them down. My hunting partner lives on the point southeast of Dilley's landing and was shooting them off the roof of his house. Mallards, pintails, and mainly ringbills. Hope to hunt the area next weekend if work doesn't interfere. Praying again for early layoff.
GullGuide
Bryce,Are you the guys in the Grass coverd Lund with a black Merc?
Bryce
Not us. I would probably know who it is if they're local. Lund seems to be the boat of choice on Mud. If you see a Yamaha powered jon with avery blind, stop and say hi. Really don't spend that much time on Mud though. Too high of an one-who-thinks-I-am-silly concentration. Norway is much more peaceful.
