Otteroutdoors duck boats?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at getting the Stealth 1200 duck boat from www.otter.com. I'm just having a problem locating one to look at or talking to someone who has used one or knows someone who has one. I'm the type of person that likes to look at what he's buying. Any info. would be great. This boat was also in the fall Cabela's catalog.

Thanks.

Try Galyan's .. they had them last year.

I have used the 1200 many times. They are a good boat as long as your not in rough water (6" waves). The only thing I dont like about them is the lack of room in the cockpit ... 2 hunters or 1 and a dog is max and it doesnt leave much room for decoys or gear. They are a little to cozy for me for everyday use, but great for pothole jumping or float hunting. If you use any number of decoys you'll want to have an otter sled to float behind the boat with your decoys to tow them to your blind. The factory oarlocks are also poorly designed (and cost extra $$$), The oars will scrape the boat when the paddle end is out of the water.

The boat I use is owned by a hunting partner. After hunting out of it I personaly wouldnt spend the money on one, but thats only my preferences, it could be the perfect boat for you. If you find one to look at be sure its on the floor so you can sit in it and get a better reality of the space you'll have.

Thanks Dave,
I'm still in the looking phase. My dad wants to go halves on a boat and thought this would be the one. We don't usually hunt with a dog, can't have one in the apts. i manage, but that's another story. I usually hunt with 2 to 3 doz decoys and I do have an otter sled that should accomodate that many dekes. I think right now it's a toss up between the stealth or a 12 foot john boat. I've got a 3 hp minnkota trolling motor that i'm gonna use on which ever boat i buy, but i have till next fall to get what i want. I'm hoping I will find what i'm looking for in the want ads, got a darn near brand new power auger that way, so who knows, maybe they'll pay out again. Anyway thanks for the info.
